Herbal Rabies Cure

By Robin Reichert, eHow Contributor

Rabies is a viral infection that is often deadly, spread by a bite from an infected animal. The infected saliva enters the body of the bite victim, travels to the brain and causes swelling or inflammation. Dogs used to be the main source of rabies in the United States, but this has not been the case for years. As of 2009, the most common causes are bats and raccoons. Once the symptoms appear, very few people survive. An herbal rabies cure may help in the beginning after the proper vaccines have been administered.

Take Proper Action
Being bitten by a rabid animal is very serious. If you are sure the animal is rabid, see your medical doctor right away. You need an immunoglobulin and vaccine at the proper time. The animal should also be kept in a cage or on a chain for observation. Be very careful about using an herbal rabies cure. Wash the bite with soap and clean water immediately to help prevent developing rabies. Rabies cannot be cured, it can only be prevented.

Interesting History
Scutellaria lateriflora--or skullcap, mad dog weed or hooded willow-herb--was used as a home remedy for fever in the U.S. during the 18th century. In fact, Dr. Lawrence Van Derveer, a physician in New Jersey, used it to treat rabies. This gave him notoriety, and in 1812 James Thacher wrote a dissertation, "Hydrophobia and its Cure, Plymouth, Mass., 1812," in which he mentions remedies for rabies. This has given skullcap a reputation as an herbal rabies cure.

Chinese Medicine
Traditional Chinese Medicine clinical herbalists use Chinese barbed skullcap to bring down fever and lower blood pressure. It is mainly known as a nerve-relaxing medicine in the U.S., but the Chinese noted its strong anti-viral action. Possibly, the powerful germ-killing, viral-destroying abilities that this herb has is what Dr. Van Derveer discovered for his herbal rabies cure. Chinese herbal doctors have reported successful applications of herbal remedies on patients bitten by suspected rabid dogs in 99.2 percent of cases. However, the research is not conclusive, because often the animal in question never had rabies.

An Herbal Procedure
Take a vapor bath and drink strong capsicum tea. While still in the bath, put 1 tsp. of lobelia seed, 1/2 tsp. of capsicum and valerian root in 1/2 cup of raspberry leaves. Also, put some of it in 1 pint of raspberry leaf tea. You must keep perspiring for two days while drinking teas of valerian, raspberry leaves and capsicum. Put tincture of lobelia on the wound. See a doctor if you have any suspicion that you have been bitten by a rabid animal before starting this herbal rabies cure.
